ABOUT AUDIBLES MAGAZINE

I came up with the idea for Audibles Magazine at the end of the 2010 football season but before I get into all the details, lets take a trip down memory lane. In 2005 when I lived in Birmingham, AL one of my friends who attended college with Roddy White was given some Falcons/Giants tickets by him  when he was in his rookie year. That was the first time I ever attended a professional football game and let me tell you, I was hooked. We had the best seats ever. We sat beside Roddy's neighbor and one section over from Marcus Vick and his mother Brenda. While the ambience in the dome was crazy, the game was horrible. The Falcons lost pitifully, Michael Vick threw maybe four interceptions, fumbled twice, and Roddy dropped every pass but one. But guess what, the very next week THAT game was sold out also. All had been forgiven. I went back to school and immediately told my advisor the path I wanted to follow. I wanted to go into sports journalism. When he asked me where this came from I explained to him that while I was sitting there in my seat during the game, I looked around and saw that throughout the sea of jerseys, the majority of those jerseys were Vick jerseys. I couldn't help but to wonder if there were no Vicks, Whites, and Turners would this game be sold out? Probably not. Fans would only be there truly because they loved the sport. But the fact is, people love football because of the dynamic personalities and talents of the players.  Why then wasn't there a major publication that focused on the players moreso than the actual sport? After a few more years I decided that this was my calling in life.
Fast forward to December 2010 and my thoughts are consumed with the fact that the fourth highest selling sports jersey in the country belongs to Tim Tebow, a rookie for the Denver Broncos who didn't even play the entire season. As a matter of fact the top selling jerseys in the country belong to professional football players. So either the entire country loves football players, or the entire faculty, staff, and alumni at the University of Florida bought up all of Tim Tebow jerseys. Think about it....... some of the most popular celebrities in the world right now are Michael Vick, Ochocinco, DeSean Jackson, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and more. So much so that they have their own reality shows. Enter Audibles Magazine. I decided Audibles was going to be the go to magazine for the latest news, interviews, blogs, and videos for your favorite athletes. I wasn't going to focus on statistics, rankings and all that jive, but instead let people get a birds eye view into the lives of their favorite players. What would professional football be without the hard working athletes who sacrifice their bodies on any given Sunday to entertain us? Audibles in print won't  launch until 2012, but this blog will serve as a tool to build my fan base. Stay tuned.......
